RENTAL INSURANCE POLICY
IMPORTANT: THIS IS A LEGALLY-BINDING DOCUMENT.
BY SIGNING THE RENTAL AGREEMENT OR BY ACCEPTING
THE KEYS TO THE RENTAL VEHICLE YOU ACCEPT THIS POLICY IN FULL.
1. DEFINITIONS
“Company”, “we”, “us”, “our” refers to PUNTA CANA RENT A CAR S.R.L.,
“Renter”, “you”, “your” refers to the person(s) named in the Rental Agreement and any authorised driver.
“Vehicle” means the car, van, SUV or jeep described in the Rental Agreement together with all tyres, tools, keys, documents, accessories and equipment.
“Basic Insurance CDW with Deductible (Included)” or “TPL” means the compulsory third-party-liability coverage required by Dominican Law 63-17.
“CDW” means Collision Damage Waiver.
“Deposit” means the security hold placed on your credit or debit card at the start of rental.
“Loss of Use” means our loss of revenue while the Vehicle is out of service for repair.
“Administrative Fee” means the fixed cost of managing a claim, currently USD 75.
“Event” means any accident, theft, attempted theft, vandalism, fire, flood, storm, collision, overturning or other occurrence causing loss or damage.
2. MANDATORY BASIC INSURANCE (INCLUDED IN RATE)
2.1 Every rental automatically includes:
a) Third-Party Liability: up to RD$1,000,000.
b) Road-side Assistance: 24/7 telephone support. We will direct you to the nearest certified repair facility, tyre shop or towing service.
2.2 EXCLUSIONS: Basic Insurance does NOT cover damage to the Vehicle, tyres, windshield, wheels, undercarriage, interior, windows, mirrors, lights, clutch, transmission, engine, theft of personal belongings, or any damage caused while the driver is under the influence of alcohol (blood-alcohol ≥ 0.05 %), drugs, or medication that impairs driving.
2.3 OBLIGATIONS: You must obtain a police report (“Acta de Policía”) for every Event; failure to do so voids all coverage.
3. OPTIONAL COVERAGES (CHOOSE AT TIME OF BOOKING OR BEFORE DEPARTURE)
PLAN A – CDW WITH DEDUCTIBLE (STANDARD)
Included in advertised rate – no extra daily charge.
- Reduces your financial responsibility for damage to the Vehicle.
- Your maximum liability is 90 % of the of the repair cost plus Loss of Use and Administrative Fee.
- The Company is responsable of 10 % of repair cost up to USD 350.
- The Deposit depending on model will be applied toward your 90 % share; any excess will be charged to the same credit card.
- Tyres, windshield, wheels, undercarriage, interior, windows, mirrors, lights, clutch, personal belongings and one-way towing are EXCLUDED.
PLAN B – CDW FULL PLUS
Daily surcharge: from USD 29/day, depending on vehicle category (see current rates at checkout)
- Reduces your responsibility for Vehicle damage to 30 % of the repair cost plus Loss of Use and Administrative Fee.
- Your maximum out-of-pocket is USD 30% of the damages + loss of use + Administrative Fee.
- The Deposit is retained toward your 30 % share; if the repair cost exceeds the Deposit amount, the difference will be charged to the same card.
- Tyres, windshield, wheels, windows, mirrors, are EXCLUDED unless you also purchase Plan E.
PLAN C – CDW PREMIUM (ZERO DEDUCTIBLE)
Daily surcharge: from USD 40/day, depending on vehicle category (see current rates at checkout).
- Eliminates your financial responsibility for damage to the Vehicle. Your maximum liability is USD 0 (zero) for the repair cost, Loss of Use, and Administrative Fee.
- The Deposit is still collected and held per Section 7, but with Plan C it is not applied toward vehicle damage — it exists to secure the Vehicle against a late return, extra days used, missing fuel, or an excessively dirty return, among other items detailed in Section 7.2.
- Tyres, windshield, wheels, windows, mirrors are EXCLUDED unless you also purchase Plan E.
PLAN D – THEFT PROTECTION
Daily surcharge: from USD 9/day, depending on vehicle category (see current rates at checkout).
- Reduces your financial responsibility if the Vehicle is stolen or robbed (“Hurto” or “Robo”) and not recovered.
- Your maximum liability is 50 % of the Vehicle’s market replacement value, plus Loss of Use and Administrative Fee; the Company assumes the remaining 50 %.
- The Deposit is retained toward your share; if your liability exceeds the Deposit amount, the difference will be charged to the same card.
- A police report (“Denuncia”) must be filed within 24 hours of discovering the theft; failure to do so voids this coverage.
- Coverage applies only if the Vehicle was properly secured (locked, alarm engaged, keys not left inside or with a third party) at the time of the theft — see Section 4.
- Without this coverage, in the event of theft you are responsible for the full market replacement value of the Vehicle.
- Plan D covers theft only; it does not cover collision or other damage. Combine with Plan A, B or C for protection against both risks.
PLAN E – WINDSHIELD & TYRE INSURANCE (“W&T”)
Daily surcharge: (must be purchased for entire rental period).
- Covers repair or replacement of up to 2 tyres and 1 windshield per rental.
- Covers labour, valve, balancing and one-way towing to the nearest tyre shop.
- Cosmetic scratches < 2 cm on rim are included; bent or cracked rims are excluded.
- NO police report required for glass/tyre-only damage.
- You must pay the repair shop and submit the original invoice within 48 h of return for reimbursement (PayPal or wire transfer within 5 business days).
- Reimbursement limit: USD 150 per tyre, USD 250 per windshield.
- Only available if you have also purchased Plan A, Plan B, or Plan C.

4. WHAT IS NEVER COVERED (EXCLUSIONS APPLY TO ALL PLANS)
Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.
Unauthorised driver or driver younger than 18 or older than 79.
Reckless or off-road driving, unpaved roads, racing, speed contests, sand dunes, river crossings,
beach driving leaving keys in the ignition, incorrect fuel usage, submersion in water.
Driving at excessive or unsafe speed, including exceeding posted speed limits, on any road (highway, city street, or off-road).
Driving through flooded roads, rivers, streams, deep puddles, or any standing water — on paved roads as well as off-road — resulting in engine, electrical, interior, or water damage.
Use for hire, reward, taxi, ride-share, sub-rental, courier, racing or any commercial purpose.
Failure to secure the Vehicle (keys left inside, engine running, doors unlocked).
Fuel error (misfuelling), clutch burn-out, transmission damage due to improper use.
Personal belongings left visible inside the Vehicle.
The vehicle is used for any illicit or criminal activity.
loss of keys, or loss of license plates are not covered by any insurance policy and are the sole responsibility of the Renter.
The Renter fails to report an accident or damage to both Punta Cana Rent a Car and the proper authorities in a timely manner.
Fines, tolls, traffic tickets, impound fees, immobilisation costs.
Consequential loss (hotel, flights, missed tours).
War, terrorism, nuclear risk, radioactive contamination.
5. ROAD-SIDE ASSISTANCE PROCEDURE
Call +1-809-673-RENT (24 h English/Spanish).
Provide rental agreement number, GPS location and description of problem.
For flat tyre: Vehicles are supplied with a serviceable spare. You are responsible for changing the tyre. We will direct you to the nearest tyre shop; labour cost is yours unless you have Plan E.
For mechanical breakdown: we will guide you to the closer mechanics workshop or we will dispatch the nearest mechanic for serious damage we will send a tow truck. Towing to the nearest authorised garage is free under Plan A and B; If the Vehicle cannot be repaired within 24 h we will provide a replacement car of equal or higher category at no extra cost only if you hold Plan B; otherwise replacement is subject to availability and standard rates.
6. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AFTER AN EVENT
Ensure safety; switch on hazard lights; place warning triangle 30 m behind the Vehicle.
Call 911 if anyone is injured. or 511 for public roadside assitence.
Obtain police report at the nearest precinct within 48 h.
Do not leave the scene until police authorise you to do so.
Take clear photographs of damage, licence plates, documents, road position and third-party vehicle.
Collect names, phone numbers, licence numbers and insurance companies of all parties and witnesses.
Notify us immediately via phone and email ()
Complete and sign the Company Accident Report form at return.
Cooperate fully with our insurer; allow inspection and repair at our chosen facility.
Pay your deductible share before departure from the Dominican Republic; failure to do so authorises us to charge your credit card.
7. DEPOSIT & PAYMENT
7.1 A refundable deposit of $100–$1,000 or more, depending on vehicle category, is required on pick-up by credit or debit card. This Deposit applies regardless of the insurance plan chosen (including CDW Premium / Zero Deductible) — it is not only for accident damage, but also secures the Vehicle against a late return, extra days used, missing fuel, or an excessively dirty return, among other items detailed in 7.2 below.
7.2 The deposit is released within 5–10 banking days after return provided:
- Vehicle is returned to the agreed location on the agreed date and time.
- No new damage, traffic fines, tolls, fuel shortage or cleaning penalty.
- All keys, documents, tools, spare tyre, child seats and accessories are present and undamaged.
7.3 If damage is discovered we will email you photographs and the final repair invoice within 72 h. Any balance due will be charged to the same card; any surplus will be refunded.
8. CLAIMS & REIMBURSEMENT
8.1 Windshield & tyre refunds: send original paid invoice plus rental agreement number within 48 h of return.
8.2 All other claims: maximum processing time 30 days.
8.3 Payments are made in US dollars by PayPal or wire transfer; bank fees borne by recipient.

9. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
To the maximum extent permitted by Dominican law, our aggregate liability for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with the rental shall not exceed the lesser of the actual cost of repair or the market value of the Vehicle at the time of the Event. We are not liable for indirect, special or consequential damages.

10. GOVERNING LAW & JURISDICTION
This Policy and any dispute shall be governed by the laws of the Dominican Republic. Exclusive jurisdiction vests in the Courts of La Altagracia Province.
If any clause is declared invalid the remainder shall continue in force.

11. ACCEPTANCE
Your signature on the Rental Agreement or electronic acceptance on www.puntacanarentacar.com constitutes acceptance of this Policy, the Rental Agreement and our General Terms & Conditions.
By accepting the keys to the Rental Vehicle, the Renter, additional driver or person in the contract or reservation email acknowledges that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Rental Insurance Policy as part of their rental agreement with Punta Cana Rent a Car.
